On Wednesday, April 8th, 2009, Nick Adenhart pitched 6 scoreless innings versus the Oakland A’s. His father, who missed seeing his games last season due to surgery was in attendance, for what was Nick’s last game. Nick called his dad earlier and asked him to come from Maryland to see him pitch. After the game, when Nick was driving, a drunk driver, who had a BAC level of three times the legal limit, crashed into Nick’s car, killing Nick and two passengers, and leaving another in critical condition. The driver, Gallo, was charged with three counts of murder and DUI. He currently faces 55 years to life.

On the Facebook group, RIP Nick Adenhart, I have started a discussion topic, Just An Idea That Came to Mind. This is what I said as an idea:

After reading several wall posts, news clips, newspaper articles and discussion boards, I came up with an idea. How about somehow, with MLB, making a commercial or something to prvent drinking and driving, so this type of thing wont happen again. People always say that they wont drink and drive, but after an accident like this, when a young life is lost after pitching 6 scoreless innings, you have to do something. I have a blog on MLBlogs and I can try and get something going on that. Please send in suggestions.
